Salon Owners Welfare Association | Chairman Visits Jammu to Financial Assistance for Beauty Salons in 2025

Jammu, March 4, 2025 — In a significant move to address the pressing challenges faced by salon owners in the region, Gurdeep Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman of the Salon Owners Welfare Association (SOWA International), convened a pivotal meeting in Jammu. The gathering took place at two prominent establishments: MJ Color Trends Makeup Studio and Vihaan Makeover Studio. This initiative underscores SOWA International’s commitment to uplifting the salon industry by leveraging government schemes like the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, which offers financial assistance and skill development opportunities to artisans and craftspeople across India.

A Platform for Dialogue and Solutions

The meeting was orchestrated to provide salon owners with a platform to voice their concerns and collaboratively seek viable solutions. MJ Sunny, owner of MJ Color Trends Makeup Studio and SOWA International’s State Coordinator for Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized the importance of this dialogue. He highlighted that the invitation extended to Chairman Dhaliwal aimed to shed light on the myriad challenges confronting salon proprietors in the region.

“Our objective is to apprise the Chairman of the difficulties we face daily. With his guidance and the association’s support, we aim to navigate these challenges effectively,” remarked MJ Sunny.

Embracing the PM Vishwakarma Scheme

A focal point of the discussion was the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, a government initiative designed to bolster traditional artisans and craftspeople, including barbers and salon professionals. Launched on September 17, 2023, the scheme offers a plethora of benefits:

  • Financial Assistance: Beneficiaries receive ₹15,000 to procure essential equipment for their businesses.

  • Skill Development Training: Enlisted individuals undergo training to enhance their skills, with a daily stipend of ₹500 during the training period.

  • Collateral-Free Loans: The scheme provides collateral-free credit support of up to ₹1 lakh in the first tranche and ₹2 lakh in the second, at a concessional interest rate of 5%.

Chairman Dhaliwal elaborated on the scheme’s potential to revolutionize the salon industry. He stated, “The PM Vishwakarma Scheme pmvishwakarma.gov.in/ is a golden opportunity for salon owners to access financial aid, upgrade skills, and procure necessary tools. It’s imperative that we harness this initiative to its fullest potential.”

Upcoming Seminar in Ludhiana: A Beacon of Opportunity

In a bid to further disseminate information and facilitate access to the scheme, SOWA International has scheduled a seminar on April 15, 2025, in Ludhiana. This event aims to:

  • Facilitate Applications: Assist salon owners in applying for the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, ensuring they avail benefits such as the ₹15,000 toolkit incentive and collateral-free loans.

  • Skill Enhancement: Provide insights into the skill development training modules, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning in the evolving beauty industry.

  • Networking Opportunities: Offer a platform for salon professionals to connect, share experiences, and collaborate on best practices.

Dhaliwal urged all salon proprietors to participate actively, stating, “This seminar is not just an event but a movement towards empowering our community. I encourage everyone to seize this opportunity.”

Integrating Employment Opportunities: A Vision for the Future

Deepika Raina, owner and makeup artist at Vihaan Makeover Studio, proposed the integration of a job fair within the seminar. Her vision is to bridge the gap between trained, skilled, unemployed youth and potential employers in the beauty sector.

“By facilitating direct interactions between job seekers and employers, we can address unemployment and ensure our industry thrives with fresh talent,” Raina asserted.

Chairman Dhaliwal responded positively, committing to inviting prominent companies to the seminar. He expressed optimism about issuing job offer letters on the spot, thereby expediting employment processes.

Addressing Unregistered Training Centers: A Call for Standardization

Another critical issue discussed was the prevalence of unregistered training centers offering courses without standardized certifications. MJ Sunny highlighted the challenges this poses, both for students and the industry at large.

“Unregistered centers compromise the quality of training, leading to a workforce that’s not industry-ready. We must ensure all training centers adhere to standardized guidelines,” he emphasized.

In response, Dhaliwal assured that SOWA International would deliberate on this matter, aiming to integrate such centers into the association’s framework and provide necessary support to align them with industry standards.

A Warm Reception: Celebrating Unity and Collaboration

The meeting culminated with a heartfelt felicitation ceremony. Prominent figures, including Pari Patel, Irfan Choudhary, Nargis Bano, Rakesh Badial, Jyoti Goyal, MJ Sunny, Ashish Raina, and Deepika Raina, honored Chairman Dhaliwal with bouquets and tokens of appreciation.

This gesture symbolized the unity and collaborative spirit of the salon community in Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting their collective commitment to overcoming challenges and elevating industry standards.

Looking Ahead: A Collective Vision for Progress

The convergence of salon owners, industry leaders, and association representatives in Jammu marks a pivotal step towards addressing the challenges faced by the beauty and wellness sector. With initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma Scheme and the proactive approach of SOWA International, the future holds promise for salon professionals aiming for growth, sustainability, and excellence.

As the industry braces for transformative changes, the emphasis remains on unity, continuous learning, and leveraging available resources to navigate the evolving landscape of the beauty and wellness sector.
